LESLEY MURPHY 1ST PLACE HARDMOORS 60 2019

LESLEY MURPHY – HARDMOORS 60 2019 – 1ST LADY, 4TH OVERALL

After a long and arduous 8 week training cycle, Lesley took on the challenge of the Hardmoors 62 mile ultra marathon, from Guisborough to Filey.

13 miles in she was about 40th position.

At half way, she was 22nd overall and 4th lady.  She had a 6 minute lead on 5th place and was 6 minutes behind 3rd place.

At 37 miles she was 2:28 behind both joint 1st place ladies and 12th overall.

By 41 miles she had taken the lead by about 30 seconds and moved into 10th place.

She worked her way sensibly and methodically through the crowd to finish 1st lady & 4th overall, with the honour of being the second fastest ever female finisher.

She had managed to change her lead over the formidable Amy Yates from 30 seconds to an astonishing 26 minutes over the next 21 miles and had moved from 10th place to 4th place.  She worked to finish 1 hour and 7 minutes ahead of the third lady.

She ran extremely well and fought hard over those last 20 miles.

Her hard work every single day in the 8 week build up to the race is testimony to her strength of character and her personality; if she has a goal then she commits herself to it.  There is a lesson for all of us there, no matter what our goals!

Well done Lesley
