A WIN IS THE ICING ON THE CAKE AT THE YORKSHIRE CAKEATHON 6 HOUR ENDURANCE RACE
Today, just as she thought things couldn’t get any better; being in a race where one of the objectives of the race is to eat as much cake as you like, Brenda blew all other competitors out of the water by finishing in first overall position, ahead of all male and female competitors, to grab her first race win and earn her self the crown as best cake eater in the North-east!!
The race was a 6 hour ultra-endurance event, along a disused railway line, where each return to the start gave competitors an opportunity to fill their faces with ever type of cake imaginable! Running + cake = heaven!
After discussing tactics earlier in the week, she had a clear game plan, where the race was mentally divided into sections in her head and she had clear intentions how to run each section to enable her-self to make a strong attack for the finish line with 2 hours to go and so whilst those around her started to flag, the application of Brenda’s training, tactics and determination stood her in good stead to dominate!
The monotony of the track started to grate on her – the same stride length and impact points of every step being the same caused her a bit of pain in her quads and bum, and so once she knew that she had victory in the bag, decided to call it a day at 4 hours and 53 minutes so that the focus could remain on her target race of a marathon in April and then a 100 mile race in July.
Having ran the furthest distance, and running the fastest time saw her crowned the 2018 Yorkshire Cakeathon overall winner!
*Update, the bloke that was 2nd place to Brenda went out and did another lap so that he could win, giving him 35.5 miles at 9:53 min/mile pace.
Total running time; 4 hours, 53 mins, 9 seconds Total distance; 31.5 miles Average pace; 9:19 minute mile 50K PB & 4 hour marathon.
